Allegedly this is one side of the story. This USSR Soviet has many sides of the story.

Alright, imagine there are two (2) kids at the playground, that is Russia and Ukraine. They used to be part of the same big group of friends, but they had an argument about who gets to play with a special toy, a part of the playground called Crimea. Russia wanted it, and Ukraine didn’t want to share it.

So, because they could not agree, Russia took the toy and said it was theirs now. Ukraine got really upset, and that is when their big argument started. They both wanted to have control over that special place.

This argument grew bigger and bigger, and other countries got worried and started telling Russia and Ukraine to stop fighting and figure out a way to share or talk things out. However, the argument has not been solved yet, and that is why Russia and Ukraine are still having this big problem and are at war. It is like a big playground fight that grown-ups are trying to help stop.

Background

The division and conflict between Russia and Ukraine are primarily centered around a region called Crimea and Eastern Ukraine.

Here is what happened:

  1. Crimea: Crimea is a piece of land near the Black Sea. It used to be part of Ukraine, but in 2014, Russia took control of it. This move was not accepted by Ukraine and many other countries. Russia said it was because a lot of people in Crimea speak Russian and wanted to be part of Russia, but Ukraine and others argued that it was against international rules to take land from another country.
  2. Eastern Ukraine: In addition to Crimea, there is also a conflict in Eastern Ukraine. Some people in Eastern Ukraine want to be closer to Russia, while others want to stay with Ukraine. This led to fighting between different groups, and it is been going on for several years.
  3. International Involvement: Many countries around the world, including the United States and European Nations, have supported Ukraine and imposed sanctions on Russia because they do not agree with Russia’s actions in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine.
  4. Efforts for Peace: There have been several attempts to make peace and stop the fighting, but it has been difficult to find a solution that satisfies everyone.

Therefore, in a nutshell, the division is about who should control certain parts of Ukraine, like Crimea and Eastern Ukraine. Russia and Ukraine have been in conflict over this, and it has caused tension between them and other countries. Efforts for peace continue, but it is a complex and ongoing situation.

Filmmaker Oliver Stone says Americans do not have a full picture of Russian President Vladimir Putin. He aims to change that with a new project, “The Putin Interviews.” The four-part documentary shot over the course of two years includes several conversations with the Russian president. In one discussion, Putin talks to Stone about multiple assassination attempts against him.

Tony Blair explains what he thinks changed Putin

24th May 2022

Vladimir Putin, especially these days, is widely reviled. To some he’s a war criminal, to others he’s a dictator, and to many, he’s simply a very bad man. But it wasn’t always this way.

We trawled through video footage from 20 years of international summits, speeches, and news conferences and discovered a man who once basked in high regard: the one who went fishing and dancing with George W. Bush, who fell into warm embraces with Tony Blair and whose jokes had NATO’s leaders rolling on the floor with laughter.

As the Opinion Video above starkly reveals, Western leaders once considered Vladimir Putin not just an ally, but also, apparently, a friend.

Even if they were simply giving him the benefit of the doubt for political purposes, they were taking a naïve gamble of historic proportions: Be nice to Putin, and maybe he would be nice back. It’s true that this brand of personal diplomacy scored some significant security victories.

Arms control treaties were signed, and Putin allowed U.S. jets to strike the Taliban from bases in Russia’s satellite states. But as Russian tanks rolled into Georgia in August 2008, Bush learned that his eight-year friendship with the Russian leader had earned him zero leverage over Putin’s territorial ambitions.

While it’s debatable whether Western governments could have foreseen the bloody horizon of Putin’s vision, let’s now be clear about one thing: Personal diplomacy doesn’t work when you need it most.

VIDEO: Russia President Vladimir Putin tried his hand at cooking some local dishes with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, Friday (June 8). Putin was in China for a weekend summit of the Chinese and Russian-led security bloc the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the port city of Qingdao. 👉 Russia and China are making steady progress in reshaping the current international order, worrying the United States and its regional allies.

Concerns that Moscow and Beijing are actively trying to reshape the balance of power are not new and have been a focus of the new U.S. national security and defense strategies. But while top military officials have repeatedly sounded the alarm about Russian and Chinese activities in other parts of the world, from Europe to Asia to Africa, there is a sense that not enough attention has been paid to what both countries have been able to do in South and Central America.
