If you look OpenAI homepage, the first sentence you can find is : “Creating safe AGI that benefits all of humanity” I personally believe that OpenAI found a pathway to AGI with whichever algos they’re working on, and are basically at a point where it will be achieved sooner or later. The last thing they have to do is to make it safe for consumers. David Shapiro said back in March 2023 that AGI will be achieved in 18 months (Sept 2024), and it’s probably the only good prediction for now.

@Walexo45 If that’s true then this could be the main reason why this whole drama happened, I don’t see how the board wasn’t aware of them developing an AGI if they were making one. I suppose that is why they fired Sam and listed “not communicating with them” as the reason.

@coconut7490 OpenAI’s goal has always been to develop AGI. It always was the objective. However, they probably did not plan that it could happen really fast, and no one on the planet is technically ready for it. I do believe AGI will be achieved probably around Sept 2024, but I don’t think it will be sentient or « intelligent ». It will be able to do any sort of task, but it could still be a bit clumsy or only be able to do prompt requests by humans. However, the government and media should clearly look into it because the internet will no longer be what it is right now. There are studies predicting that 90% of all content on the internet could be generated with AI by 2025. We’re talking war footage, fake political speech being shared everywhere, deepfakes, etc…. Get ready.
