Who said what, these quotes don’t add up. Well. Well.

“Diplomacy is the art of letting somebody else have your way” – David Frost

“Tact is the art of making a point without making an enemy” – Isaac Newton

“Tact is the art of making a point without making an enemy”- Howard W. Newton

As Abraham Lincoln put it, “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.”

Tact and diplomacy are methods used to aid effective communication, especially during the negotiation and when attempting to be persuasive or assertive. They are skills that help you understand other people and be sensitive to their opinions, beliefs, ideas, and feelings.

These skills help you respond in a way that prevents bad feelings or awkwardness, whilst at the same time asserting or reflecting your own ideas and feelings back in a delicate and well-meaning fashion.

Since people and situations differ, developing effective tact and diplomacy skills requires practice and good judgment.

These skills are not limited to use in only formal communications, such as in the workplace: tact and diplomacy are also important when developing and maintaining friendships, intimate relationships, and relationships in the family.
