25 British laws that exist(ed)
- All whales and sturgeons found in the United Kingdom belong to the Crown.
- 1313 Statute – Armor-wearing is not allowed in Parliament.
- Vagrancy Act 1824 it is illegal to ask a stranger for some change, which is considered begging and you could end up in the ‘house of correction.’
- 1839 law – It is illegal to knock on someone’s door and walk away. This includes ringing the doorbell without an excuse.
- Metropolitan Police Act 1839 – it is illegal to be drunk at a bar or ‘keeper of a public house to permit drunkenness on premises.’
- Compliments of the Town Police Clauses Act 1847 – if you keep your pigs outside your house without the proper fencing, you will be subject to a 1000 British pound fine.
- Library Offences Act 1898 – you cannot gamble or use abusive or obscene language in a library.
- If you annoy passengers or inhabitants with a flying kite, you shall be fined 500 British pounds.
- Seaman’s and Soldier’s False Characters Act 1906 – At a fancy party, don’t dress up as a soldier or seaman. it is illegal to pretend to be part of the armed forces.
- This law was repealed in 1960 – From the age of 17 to 69 every Englishman was required to keep and practice with a longbow.
- Until 1976 the UK had a law that required all cars to carry at least one bale of hay. It was initially written for horse-drawn carriages.
- Salmon Act 1986 – It is illegal to handle salmon in suspicious circumstances.
- After 8:00 am it is illegal to beak or shake a mat, rug, or carpet in the street.

- All unmarked swans belong to the Crown (Queen/King) and any attempt to eat them is illegal.
- Jumping the ticket queue at the tube station (metro/subway) is not just rude, it is also illegal. Stay in line and wait your turn.
- It is illegal to die whilst in Parliament since it is a Royal Palace and you would be required to have a state funeral.
